Bloggers We Love – The Double Take Girls

We love to spread the love of some of our favorite bloggers. Especially ones with two minds behind the scenes!

Here is one of our favorite duo’s  - just in case you don’t know them already,

The Double Take Girls.

They are sweet, sassy, best friends and twinsies. Best friends that happen to be twins that share a love for fashion. Makes our hearts melt!

Lindsay and Whitney are ADORABLE – We wish they lived closer (they are in Oklahoma City!) because we just know we would be friends! But in the meantime, we love reading their posts and watching them from afar on Instagram here.

We thought we would ask them a few ‘insider’ questions so we could all get to know them a little bit better…

Do you have different styles in clothing?

WhitneyWe have a very similar taste when it comes to picking out wardrobe items. I’ve always gravitated to items that are a bit more classic, whereas Lindsay was always one to add in a pop of color – even if she already had one already! Over the years, I would say that we have helped each other stay focused on timeless pieces that flatter vs. trendy items that will just

float out of our closets the next season.

One word to describe each other’s style…

Lindsay: I would say Whitney is “High-Low”.  She’s really great with mixing brands.

Whitney: Linds is great with being chic yet casual, which works well as a new mom.  I would say  “simply chic” – or “pink” if I really just have to pick one word.  She has been a pink lover since we first learned our colors.

Favorite article of clothing?

Whitney: That’s a hard one! Probably my Kate Spade windowpane skirt. Accessory wise, I really enjoy my Louis Vuitton speedy and neverfull bags. It took me a long time to save up for them so I really appreciate having them in my closet!

Lindsay: How’s a girl to pick? But I do love my perfectly tailored LBD and hot pink Michael Kors bag.

Do you have a favorite ‘twin moment’ that you can share with us:

Well there was one time we showed up at a wedding wearing the exact same outfit!! It was really embarrassing.  There wasn’t time for one of us to go back home and change. So all night we had to explain to people that it was a case of “great minds think a like”!

First memory of fashion…

Whitney: We learned how to sew at a very early age.  I think my love for fashion and styling stemmed from how much I loved picking out fabric and dress patterns. Watching old Audrey Hepburn and Judy Garland films helped solidify it as well.

Lindsay: I agree with Whitney about our love for sewing and watching movies with classic fashion icons. We also spent 20 years in classical ballet, which also made us love and appreciate beautiful tailoring, fabric and design.

Biggest influence (person) on your style?

Whitney: I would say my sister has been.  We’ve helped each other since we were little.  I don’t know what I would do without her! Erin and Molly – I’m sure you all can relate!

Lindsay: I totally agree – we are each other’s stylists!

Something fun we don’t know about each of you …

Whitney:  I adore painting, crafts and really anything that allows from some creativity.  However, with my busy work schedule and caring for my two girls (ages 2 and 5) I don’t seem to do much of these things anymore.  However, my mom just gave me the sewing machine I used years ago.  So I’m eager to get started on some projects, as well as teach my oldest daughter to sew!

Lindsay:  I love to organize! I’ve been labeling and color coding my closet since I was young. Cleaning my closet and steaming clothes is very relaxing to me. Not sure if it was all those years working retail or not? Growing up we shared a room – and I was always in charge of the closet. :)

We heart Simply Stylist!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending Simply Stylist in Chicago.  It was such an inspiring place to be, full of positive energy, making connections, and a lot of style.  The panel of women we got to listen to were a great mix – from Stephanie Mark, co-founder of the Coveteur to Anne Finch, founder of Katherine Cosmetics and then Wendy from Wendy’s Lookbook.  All of this was hosted by the beautiful Catt Sadler from E News – so great to listen to and see her in person!

I came away from the weekend full of ideas and thoughts for the blog and our business, thanks Simply Stylist!

Scroll down through to the end of this post to see what other amazing style and beauty bloggers I met, loved, and of course instantly had to follow (on Instagram).

Without really thinking about it, I accidentally put together an entire look by Rag & Bone. Shop my look below.

Simply Stylist Blogger Love:

Wendy’s Lookbook - panelist and blogger/youtube extraordinaire @wendyslookbook

Naturally Creole - I had the pleasure of sitting with Deanna at brunch, she is naturally gorgeous of course but also so down to earth and personable. And she was there with her sister, who was equally beautiful.  Deanna, I am so glad to have met you and come across your blog!  You are super talented.  @naturallycreole

Sunflowers and Lace – This is a Chicago based blog run by two adorable sisters.  Loved them, their style, and their sunny personalities.  I can’t wait to collaborate with these gals!  @sunflowersandlaceblog

Fashionaholic – Though I didn’t get to chat with Janet from Fashion-A-Holic too long, I love that she’s not only a Chicago fashion blogger but also a wife and mother like myself!  My kind of gal, with some serious style.  @fashionholik

Tiff + Jen – Sisters, Moms, and co-owners of a jewelry line I love, T&J Designs.  You must check out their designs, I have a few pieces and they’re always compliment worthy.

The Never Ending List

Does anyone else feel like, when it rains it pours?

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, Back to School is coming, Birthdays, Summer Vacations  … the list goes on!

There are so many things that I need want – so I keep them on my ‘watch list’ – Some are not so fun … some are YUMMY!

For my little baby girl who is about to turn FIVE (I tear up as I am writing this) – she is needing a room makeover and a few other essentials.

For the never-ending house projects that keep moving down the list (new shoes seem to trim a light fixture over here!).

And last but not least … S.C.H.O.O.L. (I hate to even use that word as we LOVE summer).

And so it goes!!

I am sure there are many things I am leaving off (my list may take too long) – but this is the current ‘must haves’ for the time being!

One day and one purchase at a time – the list goes on.

summer, summer, summertime!

Right, right……..does anyone get the Will Smith song reference?  Hope so.  Actually that’s one of my favorite songs.  But….I digress.

Summertime is always busy, for everyone. There’s so much to do – concerts, parties, get togethers, celebrations, it never ends!  But, in Chicago, our summertime is that much sweeter because we have such a short time to enjoy it.  I thought I’d give you a sneak peek into what we’ve been up to this summer so far…….(and it mostly involves my kids of course!).

at a Pat McGee band concert down at City Winery in Chicago, with some great friends of ours visiting from Madison. Such a treat. Shop my outfit below.

Our very first trip to the American Girl store on Michigan Avenue. She couldn’t have been happier!

My girl (on the right in the maxi skirt of course) strolling with her sweet cousin. Holding hands couldn’t be cuter!

And here she is (again) with my handsome man at my son’s final soccer game of the season. Still little enough to sit on Daddy’s shoulder like that!

Here’s my big boy (6!) on his last day of Kindergarten. The year flew by and he grew up in so many ways. Sigh.

Whoops – another one of the sassy lady wearing my Tom Fords and a Matilda Jane top. At least she has good taste, right?

My friend Katey and I at what will be my last Ravinia show for some time (more on that later). John Legend was amazing, and it was a good time with great friends. Shop my outfit below. I can’t wait to wear this dress again.

And here is my other ‘baby’ my new LV Pallas. It was my gift for…..my birthday, Mother’s day, and any other reason I might receive a gift for the next 5 years. Ha! I was attending a Reward Style School Night downtown and got to meet many other amazing Chitown bloggers!

Writing a note to Maurices (RS School Night sponsor) and RS for a great night, then Instagramming it of course! Follow me: @molliestylespies and follow Erin: @erinstylespies

Today – incidentally – this gal is 4. I can’t believe it’s been 4 years. Maybe it’s because I haven’t slept in 4 years. Either way, she’s a keeper. Dress by Joah Love.

IMG_2906

And all I have to say here is this: look out ladies. He’s handsome AND sensitive. And happily plays ‘house’ with his sister. Boom.

IMG_3586

Finally – these two. My hubby and I have really taken a backseat to golf since they came into our lives, and we’re itching to get back into the game! So we brought them to the driving range and they actually really enjoyed watching us hit balls! And now – one of them is in lessons! Amazing how that works.

White Out

Summer Whites.

Simple, Classic, Timeless.

I am obsessed with anything white these days. Makes our sun-kissed skin glow, our bleached hair shine and spells out s.u.m.m.e.r.!

Weekend Getaways and a Maxi Dress

A weekend getaway. Love getting away, hate trying to decide what to bring!

We visited Wimberley, TX this past weekend with two of of our favorite families for a little trip out of the city.

We lounged in the water by day and laughed out loud until the wee hours of the night. It was the perfect trip to make a perfect weekend.

And my perfect maxi?

Pinterest beauty

So our blog posting has taken a break while we had our site redesigned by The Nectar Collective, and we’ve had a teensy bit of time on our hands.  Let’s not go overboard; Erin and I have each had one kid ‘graduate’ Kindergarten, we’re getting ready for summer and camp, and of course continue to work with our clients.

During this ‘time off,’ of course I was spending a fair amount of time on Pinterest.  I came across hundreds of pins featuring beautiful fashion photography, and I wanted to share some with you.  Such inspiration!

What to wear in Las Vegas

Bandage Dress

First of all – what NOT to wear.  A bandage dress. Everyone AND THEIR MOM was wearing a bandage dress this past weekend in Vegas.  I mean, it was epic.  Too many bandage dresses on too many people who should not be wearing bandage dresses.  While there are plenty of options out there if this is the look you want, the trend has definitely been overdone.  As in cooked, sauteed, and let’s move on to the next course.

On to what TO wear.  Here’s what in my ‘what to wear to Las Vegas’ playbook.

1.  saucy miniskirt

2.  one GREAT dress

3.  an amazing top

4.  a layering tank

5.  cropped blazer

6.  heels, pumps, sandals – FAB shoes!

7.  the right jewelry.  don’t skimp on what you bring.  it’s lightweight and doesn’t take up much room in your baggage.

8.  make up.  fun makeup you would never wear in your REAL life.

9.  a swimsuit that makes you feel GREAT!

And here are a few pics of our weekend away.  We had SUCH a great time.  If I can recommend anything – we played the game Cards Against Humanity while sitting around the pool both days.  BEST. GAME. EVER.  If, that is, you are a horrible person.  Which at some level, we all are.  ;-)  It’s a must buy.  I’ve never laughed so hard.

I love finding out what my girlfriends use, make-up wise.  Why?  Because the sheer amount we have to choose from to is overwhelming.  Though I love a good (kid-free) trip into Sephora to play around, I always end up consulting with a salesperson just to narrow down the choices.  Today I’m sharing what’s in MY make-up bag.  I don’t carry all of this around with me – most of it actually stays at home.  On a daily basis, I’m mostly a mascara, lip gloss and powdered foundation kind of girl.  Some days I don’t even get that far.  But when I really do it right……these are the products that are in play.
